What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.

Game On! GAME OFF!
After careful deliberation, our annual golf tournament fundraiser that was initially postponed from May 21 to August 20 due to COVID-19 concerns has now been cancelled. We just could not (understandably) get the commitments necessary to put on a successful, enjoyable, and most importantly, safe event. |

2019-2020 Essay Contest
The Leesburg Optimist Club essay contest has concluded for 2020. The topic for this year's essay contest was "Is Optimism the Key to Achieving the Dreams you iMagine?" We received a total of 49 essays from four different Loudoun County High Schools this February. Contestants came from Loudoun County High, Heritage High, Rock Ridge High and Dominion High Schools. Only Loudoun County and Dominion submitted the minimum number of essays necessary to qualify for the $500 cash award per club rules. Junior Cole Howard was judged to have the highest scoring essay from Loudoun County High School in Leesburg and was awarded a $500 cash prize. His English teacher, Ms. Arlene Lewis spoke very highly of Cole’s serious level of commitment to everything he does at County. The overall winner this year was Ms. Safiya Khan, a Senior at Dominion High School in Sterling. In addition to being awarded $500, Safiya’s essay was entered in the competition at the Optimist Capital-Virginia District level where the winner receives a $2,500 college scholarship. Safiya’s essay was judged to be among the top five finalists at the district competition. She will be continuing her education in the fall of 2020. So many of the essays submitted this year from all four schools expressed thoughtfulness and creativity in their messages and writing styles. The Leesburg Optimist Club members were honored to be judges and wish all participants much success as they continue their life journey. |
